Positive mental attitude! We hear a lot about that in sports, business, school, and about life in general. The fourth chapter of Philippians is the "positive mental attitude" chapter of the Bible. Paul has been teaching the Philippians about sanctification. He described the believer's growing in the Lord as being similar to running a marathon race. When Jesus returns the race is over and we are living in perfection. Believers need to hold their ground and stand firm, so that they can continue to run the race and become more Christlike.
Growing in the Lord is like running a marathon! Everybody profits from following the example of godly Christians that serve as role models and avoiding those who don't. Much is at stake here because if you follow the wrong example and get derailed, you might not cross the finish line and realize the fullness of Christ in glory.
