The Book of James

My next Sunday morning teaching series is is entitled "Building Blocks for Life", which is an expository series through the book of James.  In my opinion, the book of James is the most practical book in the Bible.  If the student of this book can master the material he will make great gains in his walk with the Lord!  The topics James presents to his audeince hit us all right where we live.  He was writing to a group of people who were living in crisis and had to deal with issues such as intense trials, poverty, oppression, controlling their sinful communication, living in the end times, how to live a life characterized by good works, and much more.  Some very difficult theological issues rise to the surface when studying James.  He presents a view of the relationship between faith and works that has given rise to endless debates among scholars.   The prayer of faith mentioned in chapter five gives rise to a multitude of interpretations about healing in the modern-day church that need careful examination.  Many inaccurate views of healing have their roots in a lack of understanding of what James taught on this very important issue.

The book of James has had a controversial history.  Martin Luther called it a straw epistle because there is no mention of the Holy Spirit in the book.  However, I find James to be rich in theology and practical wisdom for everyday life, as do countless scores of believers throughout the ages.  You will be blessed by going through this series with me.
