Join a Small Group - Starting September 12

Most churches have some Bible studies that take place during the week. They are known by a variety of names such as Life Groups, Growth Groups, Discipleship Groups, Encounter Groups, Accountability Groups, Community Groups, Bible Fellowships, and so forth. Here at Parkside we simply call them "small groups." Whatever you call them doesn't really matter as long as you have the basic ingredients of a Bible Study, of which there are four:

  • Studying Scripture with God's people - By its very nature a small group is a relational activity, so whatever you do in a small group will be done with other people. Listening to others share their insights about God's Word and discussing the meaning of Scripture with your friends is an enriching thing to do. It is one of the ways we grow deeper in God's Word.
  • Connecting with God's people – A great way to make new friends and deepen existing relationships is to attend a small group. Having people in your life is one of the greatest blessings that you can have. Fellowship with your friends is one of the most exciting parts of being in a Bible study because you can grow in the Lord together!
  • Praying with God's people – Whenever God's people gather together prayer should take place. Involvement in a small group can help you develop your prayer life as you pray with and for others. Praying in a small group is a great way to witness first-hand the power of prayer.
  • Reaching out with God's people – Small groups can reach out to others by inviting them to attend the group, helping them to meet a need, doing acts of kindness, praying for people, and so on.

Operation Tribute: Honoring Our Military Community

10thmountain_smallSeptember 19th Parkside has a special Sunday that is devoted to honoring our military community that we call "Operation Tribute." The military is a huge component of Parkside Bible Church with over half of our congregation consisting of soldiers and their families. We have always embraced the military community of Fort Drum, and they have added a special quality to our church. Having people in the military gives us incredible diversity in that we have people worshiping with us from all over the United States. It makes our church culturally diverse and rich.

Most of the military consists of young families that have little children. Parkside Bible Church is loaded with children, and we have an excellent ministry to the kids that attend here.

I have appreciated the willingness of so many people in the military community who quickly volunteer their services, and occupy a place of ministry in the church. Realizing that they will only be in Watertown for a couple of years, most people get involved quickly and contribute to the ministries of the church. We have had members of the military community serving in every component of our church, from eldership to serving in the nursery. We appreciate the contribution the military community has made to our church.

The deployments are tough and Parkside does its best to help support the spouses that attend church here. There are a number of women's Bible studies and activities that lend themselves to building friendships and provide emotional and spiritual support.

Because of the special blessing that Parkside has experienced through the military community that attends here, we want to honor all of you on September 19th for serving your country, and helping to preserve our freedom. We thank you soldiers and your families for what you do!
